If you’re over 50 and noticing volume loss, skin laxity or changes in facial structure, you may be wondering: Should I get Sculptra or dermal filler?
The answer isn’t necessarily one or the other. These treatments work differently, and the right choice depends on what has changed in your face and what you want to improve.
What does Sculptra do?
Sculptra® is an injectable biostimulator made with poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA). Rather than simply adding immediate volume, Sculptra works by stimulating your body’s own collagen production over time.
For women over 50 experiencing age-related collagen loss and gradual changes in facial volume, Sculptra can be an option when the goal is progressive, natural-looking improvement in areas such as the cheeks and other FDA-approved facial regions.
Results develop gradually, which appeals to patients who want to look refreshed without an obvious overnight change.
How is dermal filler different?
Dermal fillers, many of which are formulated with hyaluronic acid, are designed to add or restore volume more directly.
Depending on the product and treatment area, filler may be appropriate when greater precision or immediate structural support is desired. It can be used to address specific areas rather than focusing primarily on stimulating collagen over time.
Is Sculptra or filler better after 50?
Neither is universally “better.”
A patient with generalized collagen and volume loss may have very different needs from someone looking to address one specific area. And sometimes, Sculptra and filler can play different roles within the same long-term aesthetic plan.
Age alone shouldn’t determine your treatment.
How do I know what I need?
At D-Lux Med Spa in Naples, we don’t believe in choosing an injectable simply because it’s trending.
A consultation is always required so your provider can evaluate your skin quality, facial anatomy, volume changes, medical history, aesthetic goals and expectations. From there, we can discuss whether Sculptra, dermal filler, another modality, or a thoughtfully designed combination approach may be appropriate for you.
Because after 50, the goal shouldn’t be to look like someone else. It should be to create a treatment plan designed around you.
