Why Washing Your Face Before Your Treatment is a Must

Clean Skin, Better Results: Why Washing Your Face Before Your Treatment is a Must!

At D-Lux Med Spa, we absolutely love makeup! Whether it’s a little something to enhance your natural glow or a full face of glam, we get it. But when it comes to your Botox or filler appointments, we need to make sure your skin is clean and ready for treatment. That means no makeup, no sunscreen, no residue—just fresh, clean skin.

Here’s why it’s so important to arrive with a clean face and what to expect if you don’t (spoiler: we’re not afraid to scrub you like a russet potato!).

The Love-Hate Relationship with Sunscreens and Tinted Formulations

We’re huge advocates of daily sun protection, and we love products like tinted sunscreens that give you a beautiful glow while protecting your skin from harmful UV rays. Personally, we’re addicted to the Colorescience Glow—it’s a sunblock that doubles as makeup and gives the perfect finish! We always encourage our clients to find a sunscreen they love, especially one that blends seamlessly into their skincare routine.

However, while those tinted formulations are fantastic for everyday wear, they can be a real bugger to remove. That’s what they’re designed to do—stick around and protect you all day. But for your med spa appointments, we need that stuff off your face before we start poking around with needles.

Why a Clean Canvas is Important for Aesthetic Treatments

Botox and fillers require a clean, sanitized surface to prevent any potential skin irritation or infection. Even the best products—whether it’s foundation, tinted sunscreen, or powder—can get in the way when we’re trying to treat your skin. If your face isn’t properly cleansed, it can lead to uneven results or worse, unwanted side effects.

Before any treatment, we need to make sure your face is scrupulously clean. So, when we say “please wash your face,” we mean really wash it! No tinted sunscreen, no foundation—just clean skin, ready for some wrinkle-reducing action.

What Happens If You Arrive with Makeup?

Don’t worry, we’ve got your back! If you arrive with makeup still on, we’ll scrub it off for you—think of it as a little pre-treatment spa moment. We’ll carefully remove your facial makeup (don’t worry, we’ll avoid your eye makeup if you want to keep your mascara and eyeshadow intact). But be prepared: we might scrub you down like a russet potato to make sure we’ve gotten every last trace of makeup off.

We need your skin to be sparkling clean before we begin any injections, and you’ll leave with fewer wrinkles, but maybe a few poke holes as well!

To ensure your skin is prepped for treatment, incorporate a high-quality cleanser into your routine to easily remove stubborn makeup and tinted sunscreen. While we love that you care for your skin with SPF or makeup, it’s important to give your skin a break on treatment days. Arriving with a fresh, clean face leads to better results and a smoother experience for everyone.

So, next time you’re heading to DLux for Botox, fillers, or any other treatment, remember: clean skin is the first step to a flawless glow-up!
